Local Reading Pact

Patto locale per la letturaThe Local Reading Pact, an essential requirement to request the Città che legge certification, is a tool that the Municipality of Fara in Sabina has adopted to promote reading and books as indispensable means for the development of critical thinking, active participation in community life, and the realization of proposals and growth.

The participating parties—the Municipality of Fara in Sabina, the Abate Alano Municipal Library, all the schools in the municipality, and several cultural associations—commit through the signing of the Pact to:

  • promote the habit of reading as a means for individual growth and civil and social development;
  • increase the number of readers by enhancing the social image of books as a transversal tool able to eliminate differences of age, cultural belonging, and economic condition;
  • combat educational and cultural poverty by identifying the book as an element of cohesion and social inclusion, a tool for lifelong learning;
  • promote the use of the library as a place for reading but also for meetings and discussions that help develop self-awareness and create solid foundations that make a community more aware, productive, and capable of proactively responding to external challenges;
  • promote good reading practices even in places not directly intended for this purpose (counseling centers, family doctors and pediatricians, theaters, festivals, exhibitions) through synergy aimed at inclusion rather than exclusion;
  • use new technologies both as reading tools (e-books, cultural platforms, online newspapers and magazines) and as means to communicate events, appointments, etc., in a coordinated manner.

Adherence to the Local Reading Pact may be requested by eligible parties who share its contents by signing the prepared form and sending it to the Mayor via the Protocol Office email.
